Tour among the Lakes of Cumbria 1827, 1827 Aug 8-25.

Holograph journal, illustrated, of Phillips's walking tour of the Lake District in the company of his friend, "T. George of Leeds." The text combines sightseeing appreciations of Windermere, Rydal Mount, Graasmere, Langdale Head, Buttermere, the Vale of Derwent, Lowdore, and Keswick with geological observations by Phillips, and contains several verses by him, including a poem on the Fair Maid of Buttermere and on Scale Force. The journal also offers reflections on the poetry of Moore, Scott, Byron and Thompson, and commentary on fellow travelers and acquaintances, including John Nicholson, "the Airedale Poet," and Hartley Coleridge. The text of the journal contains a few pen sketches of geological formations and of fossils seen at "Todhunter's museum." Following the text are 46 pencil and ink drawings, a few with wash, of scenic locations on the tour. The drawings range from highly finished to preliminary composition sketchs.
